During my exchange year in the United States, I had the opportunity to be part of the Be a Friend Project, a national initiative dedicated to raising awareness about bullying and discrimination. With the support of our coordinator, we established an official school club where we worked to support students affected by bullying. Each month, we collected letters of encouragement and support that were sent to children experiencing bullying, while also organizing classroom presentations and schoolwide initiatives to promote kindness, empathy, and inclusion. Our project was recognized as one of the top three in our FCCLA regional competition, earning us a place at the State level. In addition, I collaborated with Falcon Friends, a school organization that supports students with special needs. Alongside teachers and fellow volunteers, I participated in activities designed to foster friendship, inclusion, and a sense of belonging. One of the most memorable experiences was assisting at a citywide prom organized for individuals with special needs, where I had the privilege of serving as a buddy and helping create a welcoming and enjoyable experience for one of the attendees. Through these initiatives, I gained a deeper understanding of the importance of inclusive spaces and supportive communities. Working closely with students from diverse backgrounds taught me that small acts of kindness can have a meaningful impact on someone's sense of belonging. These experiences strengthened my commitment to advocacy, inclusion, and creating opportunities for all individuals to feel valued and supported.
